Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006
The Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006 was signed into law Thursday July 27th by President Bush. While we support the protection of children from pornography sections of this law (2257) infringes upon some of our basic rights to privacy and makes extensive requirements of producers of sexually explicit material.
2257 requires producers of sexually explicit material to obtain proof of age for every model; the law was recently expanded to include "secondary producers" which would include websites that feature personal profiles and member posted photographs. These sites would now be required to maintain files of personal information of each member that have posted nude photographs to their site. There is a preliminary injunction that currently protects all secondary producers that are members of the FREE SPEECH COALITION.
