October Is Gay, Lesbian, Bi, Trans History Month

October is now here! While in and of itself, that’s not very exciting, and while the blanket of Fall rests itself mere inches above our heads and all the trees begin to change into bright and colorful colors, October flies a rainbow flag, and signals the beginning of GLBT History Month!

While the social mediums and political tightwire acts progress toward a more equal footing, October is a time to reflect on the first steps of equality; on those who had no precedent to rely on in the forging of their beliefs; on those who risked a lot while asking for so little; or simply those whose bravery in the face of oppression has helped to embolden the gay, lesbian, bi and trans community.

Beginning October 1, a GLBT Icon is presented daily, with a video, bio, bibliography, downloadable images and other resources – all provided for free. The 93 Icons with resources for 2006, 2007 and 2008 are archived on the GLBT History Month Web site.
